The term 'Spell Of Illness ' as it applies to the area of Medicare in the United States can be defined as ' A period of consecutive days, beginning with the first day on which a beneficiary is furnished inpatient hospital or extended care services, and ending with the close of the first period of 60 consecutive days thereafter in which the beneficiary is in neither a hospital nor a skilled nursing facility'.
